Editorial and archive standards

SGM Journals is a preservation archive, not a current journal submission or peer-review platform. Its purpose is to keep historical Society for General Microbiology articles, citation records and inbound scholarly links accessible.

Source and publication provenance

Article titles, authors, abstracts, full text, references and publication metadata were recovered from the former journal platform. Each article is identified by its original journal, volume, issue, pages and DOI where those fields were available. The current Microbiology Society is identified separately as the successor publisher.

Preservation and automated summaries

Recovered publication text is presented as published. When the original HTML was unavailable but a PDF could be recovered, a clearly labelled automated summary may help readers discover the record. These summaries are not part of the original article and the PDF remains the authoritative source.

Corrections and incomplete records

Some historical records are incomplete because the source archive did not contain the full article or all citation fields. Incomplete records are labelled, and low-information records are excluded from search indexing. Questions about current journal policy, corrections or retractions should be directed to the Microbiology Society.

Machine-readable research metadata

Eligible article pages provide canonical URLs, Google Scholar citation metadata and ScholarlyArticle structured data. Journal, issue and topic pages provide explicit hierarchy and collection metadata so readers and search systems can distinguish publications from archive navigation.
