Summary auto-generated
This is a notification list documenting new bacterial names and nomenclatural changes published in volume 50, part 2 of the International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology (IJSEM). The document serves as an official registry to facilitate recognition of newly described bacterial species and reclassifications within the scientific community. The list includes newly named species across diverse bacterial groups, such as Vibrio viscosus and Vibrio wodanis, various reclassifications of Thiobacillus species into new genera (Acidithiobacillus, Halothiobacillus, and Thermithiobacillus), novel isolates like Palaeococcus ferrophilus and Streptomyces thermocoprophilus, and reclassifications of existing species with corrected nomenclature. Additionally, the list documents new genera including Hyphomonas, Marmoricola, Tetrasphaera, and Pandoraea, among others. Some entries note nomenclatural corrections, synonymies, and subspecific divisions. This notification procedure was established by the Judicial Commission to maintain systematic order in bacterial nomenclature and assist microbiologists in staying current with taxonomic developments.
Key findings
- The notification documents approximately 80+ newly named or reclassified bacterial species and genera published in IJSEM volume 50, part 2
- Significant reclassification of Thiobacillus species into multiple new genera (Acidithiobacillus, Halothiobacillus, Thermithiobacillus) reflects updated taxonomic understanding
- The list includes novel species from diverse environments and metabolic types, including sulfur-oxidizing bacteria, thermophilic organisms, and salt-tolerant species
- Nomenclatural corrections and synonymy designations are documented to maintain taxonomic accuracy and prevent nomenclatural confusion

Abstract
This listing of names published in a previous issue of the IJSEM is provided as a service to bacteriology to assist in the recognition of new names and new combinations. This procedure was proposed by the Judicial Commission [Minute II(ii), Int J Syst Bacteriol 41 (1991), p. 185]. The names given herein have priority according to the page number of the IJSEM on which they were proposed.
