Abstract
Minute 5. Taxonomic developments
There had been several taxonomic developments at and above the genus level since the meeting of the Subcommittee held on 16 August 1999 in Sydney, Australia [Labeda & Goodfellow, Int J Syst Evol Microbiol 52 (2002), 2327]. The family Actinosynnemataceae has been described to encompass the genera Actinokineospora, Actinosynnema, Lentzea and Saccharothrix [Labeda & Kroppenstedt, Int J Syst Evol Microbiol 50 (2000), 331336]. Two new genera have been proposed, namely Crossiella [Labeda, Int J Syst Evol Microbiol 51 (2001), 15751579] and Lechevalieria [Labeda et al., Int J Syst Evol Microbiol 51 (2001), 10451050]. Lee et al. [Int J Syst Evol Microbiol 50 (2000), 13151323] suggested that Lentzea albidocapillata, the type species of the genus Lentzea, be transferred to the genus Saccharothrix, thereby effectively invalidating this genus under the rules of the International Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria (1990 Revision). However, Labeda et al. [Int J Syst Evol Microbiol 51 (2001), 10451050] have revived the genus Lentzea to accommodate four species, Lentzea albida, Lentzea californiensis, Lentzea violacea and Lentzea waywayandensis. It has also been proposed that the genera Actinobispora Jiang et al. 1991 and Pseudonocardia Henssen 1957 be combined to form an emended genus, Pseudonocardia [Huang et al., Int J Syst Evol Microbiol 52 (2002), 977982].
Minute 6. Remit of the Subcommittee
It was agreed that in light of recent taxonomic developments the Subcommittee should widen its remit to include taxa classified in the suborder Pseudonocardineae. This taxon currently encompasses the genera Actinokineospora, Actinopolyspora, Actinosynnema, Lentzea and Saccharothrix of the family Actinosynnemataceae, the genera Amycolatopsis, Kibdelosporangium, Prauserella, Pseudonocardia (syn. Actinobispora), Saccharomonospora, Saccharopolyspora, Thermobispora and Thermocrispum of the family Pseudonocardiaceae, together with the genera Crossiella, Kutzneria and Streptoalloteichus.
Minute 7. Name of the Subcommittee
It was agreed that in light of the taxonomic changes outlined above that the Subcommittee be renamed: Subcommittee on the taxonomy of the suborder Pseudonocardineae.
Minute 8. Minimal standards
It was agreed that this question be revisited following the resolution of existing taxonomic problems within the suborder Pseudonocardineae.
Minute 9. ICSP web site
It was agreed that information on the Subcommittee should be included on the ICSP web site.
Minute 10. Current membership
The current membership of the Subcommittee is J. Chun (Seoul, Korea), R. M. Kroppenstedt (Braunschweig, Germany), T. Kudo (Tokyo, Japan), D. P. Labeda (Peoria, IL, USA), Z. Liu (Beijing, China), T. Tamura (Kisarazu-shi, Chiba Prefecture, Japan) and M. E. Trujillo (Salamanca, Spain). It was agreed that M. E. Trujillo become Secretary of the Subcommittee; the previous Secretary, D. P. Labeda, was thanked for his many services to the Subcommittee in this capacity.
Minute 11. Date of next meeting
The next meeting of the Subcommittee may be held in December 2003 at the International Symposium on the Biology of Actinomycetes in Melbourne, Australia.
Minute 12. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 14 : 00 on 31 July 2002.
