Abstract
Minute 1. Call to order.
The Subcommittee met during the Brucellosis 2000 conference held in Nimes, France, on 9 September 2000. It was the first meeting since 1994 and it was decided that the membership and office-holders should be reviewed.
Minute 2. Record of attendance.
The following members were present: A. López-Merino (Chairman), M. Banai (Secretary) and T. Ficht, all ongoing members from the Prague membership, and A. Cloeckaert, J. Godfroid and A. MacMillan. It was agreed that other members should be sought, particularly from other parts of the world not currently represented. M. J. Corbel, E. Moreno and I. Moriyón should be asked to join in light of their expertise in the field. Those present were considered to represent a quorum and able to make proposals on behalf of the Subcommittee.
Minute 3. Election of officers.
The presiding leadership expressed their wish to retire from their positions. A. MacMillan was elected Chairman of the Subcommittee and T. Ficht was elected Secretary and Deputy Chairman.
Minute 4. Scientific matters.
It was agreed that there were several important issues on which recommendations were urgently needed. In particular, the taxonomic status of strains recently isolated from marine mammals needs resolution. A. Cloeckaert was requested to review the literature and prepare a list of genetic markers for discussion at the next meeting.
Minute 5. Current membership.
The members are as follows: A. MacMillan (Chairman) (UK), T. Ficht (Secretary and Deputy Chairman) (USA), M. Banai (Israel), A. Cloeckaert (France), M. J. Corbel (UK), J. Godfroid (Belgium), A. López-Merino (Mexico), E. Moreno (Costa Rica) and I. Moriyón (Spain).
Minute 6. Next meeting.
It was agreed to plan a formal meeting of the Subcommittee to be held within 1 year at which a full discussion of current issues could be held and recommendations made. An agenda would be agreed by correspondence in advance of the meeting.
