Minute 6. Taxonomic comments.
The question was raised in this subcommittee as to whether the threshold of 97 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity should be raised for species descriptions. D. P. Labeda commented that it would be a good idea to check all new sequences and DNADNA hybridization data available before suggesting a new value which may be proposed in the next meeting.
Minute 7. Minimal standards update.
It was agreed that a draft document on minimal standards will be prepared in the near future for the description of novel members of the suborder Pseudonocardineae.
Minute 8. Current membership.
The current membership of the subcommittee is as follows: J. Chun (Korea), R. M. Kroppenstedt (Germany), T. Kudo (Japan), D. P. Labeda (USA), Z. Liu (China), T. Tamura (Japan), M. Goodfellow (UK) (Chairman) and M. E. Trujillo (Spain) (Secretary). It was agreed that all members will be contacted via email to enquire about their desire to continue as members of this subcommittee. Additionally, invitation letters will be forwarded to other colleagues who may be interested in joining.
Minute 9. Next meeting.
The next meeting of the subcommittee will be held in Madrid in 2006 at the Second FEMS Congress.
