Summary auto-generated
This article is a notification list from the International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology (IJSEM) documenting new bacterial names and combinations published in volume 56, part 6 of 2006. The list serves as an official registry to assist the bacteriology community in recognizing validly published taxonomic names according to established rules of priority. It includes new species descriptions (sp. nov.), new genera (gen. nov.), new combinations (comb. nov.), and taxonomic amendments (emend.) across diverse bacterial groups. The names are organized by author and publication order rather than phylogenetic relationship, encompassing organisms from various habitats including marine environments, hot springs, and soil. Notable inclusions involve several Actinobacteria, Firmicutes, and Proteobacteria. The list explicitly states that taxonomic opinions creating synonymies or circumscription changes cannot be considered validly published by the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes unless formally approved. This notification procedure was established to provide transparency and facilitate communication within the systematic bacteriology community regarding newly recognized microbial taxa.
Key findings
- Over 60 new bacterial names and taxonomic combinations were validly published in IJSEM volume 56, part 6, 2006
- New taxa span multiple bacterial phyla including Actinobacteria, Firmicutes, and Proteobacteria from diverse environments
- Several high-level taxonomic groups were established including three new classes (Anaerolineae, Caldilineae) and associated new orders and families
- The list demonstrates the ongoing discovery and reclassification of bacterial taxa according to established nomenclatural rules
- Notification lists serve as official registries to communicate validly published names to the microbiology community

Abstract
This listing of names published in a previous issue of the IJSEM is provided as a service to bacteriology to assist in the recognition of new names and new combinations. This procedure was proposed by the Judicial Commission [Minute 11(ii), Int J Syst Bacteriol 41 (1991), p. 185]. The names given herein are listed according to the Rules of priority (i.e. page number and order of valid publication of names in the original articles). Taxonomic opinions included in this List (i.e. the creation of synonyms or the emendation of circumscriptions) cannot be considered as validly published nor, in any other way, approved by the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes and its Judicial Commission.
