Summary auto-generated

This document is a notification list published in the International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology (IJSEM) announcing newly validated bacterial names and taxonomic combinations from volume 57, part 7. The list catalogs bacterial taxa officially recognized according to the Rules of Priority and includes both newly proposed genera and species as well as emendations to existing taxa. The names are organized by genus and include contributions from research groups worldwide who discovered and characterized these microorganisms. Examples include novel genera such as Pelagicoccus, Halopiger, and Thiohalomonas, along with numerous new species assignments across diverse bacterial groups including halophiles, thermophiles, and environmental isolates. Several existing genera underwent circumscription changes to accommodate new discoveries. The list serves as an official reference document to assist the bacteriology community in recognizing and applying these validated names. Taxonomic opinions presented, such as the creation of synonymies, were not separately approved by the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes but reflect naming decisions made during the formal publication process.

Key findings

  • Seventy-five new bacterial taxa were validly published in IJSEM volume 57, part 7, including novel genera and species across diverse environments
  • New organisms identified include halophiles, thermophiles, and environmental isolates from various ecological niches worldwide
  • Several established genera underwent emendation to accommodate new species, including Acidianus, Georgenia, and Bacillus mojavensis
  • The notification list serves as the official record for bacterial taxonomy according to the Rules of Priority established by the Judicial Commission

Abstract

This listing of names published in a previous issue of the IJSEM is provided as a service to bacteriology to assist in the recognition of new names and new combinations. This procedure was proposed by the Judicial Commission [Minute 11(ii), Int J Syst Bacteriol 41 (1991), p. 185]. The names given herein are listed according to the Rules of priority (i.e. page number and order of valid publication of names in the original articles). Taxonomic opinions included in this List (i.e. the creation of synonyms or the emendation of circumscriptions) cannot be considered as validly published nor, in any other way, approved by the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes and its Judicial Commission.
