    Abstract

Summary: Gluconic acid-producing bacteria have been isolated in high glucose media from honey bees and from ripening honey. Their morphological and biochemical properties indicate possible relationship with acetic bacteria and certain pseudo-monads. At least part of the gluconic acid in honey may arise from the metabolic activity of these bacteria.
